For the WALDEVAR team, Intersolar Europe 2026 provided valuable insights into the technologies, market trends and investment priorities shaping the future of utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), Floating PV and renewable energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

One clear takeaway from this year’s discussions was that the renewable energy market is entering a more mature phase. The focus is gradually moving beyond simply adding generation capacity. Developers and investors are increasingly looking at how electricity will be stored, managed, transported and ultimately delivered when the system needs it.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of the trends that stood out:<\/p>\n


\nBattery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming essential<\/strong><\/p>\n

ne topic was impossible to ignore: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).<\/p>\n

Across meetings and technology showcases, storage was consistently part of the conversation, confirming its growing role in making renewable energy projects more flexible, reliable and commercially viable.<\/p>\n

The increasing interest in BESS also reflects a broader shift in how renewable energy projects are being designed. As more intermittent generation enters electricity systems, the ability to shift electricity across different periods of the day is becoming increasingly important.<\/p>\n

Romania was frequently mentioned in discussions with international developers and investors as one of Europe’s most promising renewable energy markets.<\/p>\n

The combination of strong solar irradiation, large areas suitable for utility-scale projects, faster permitting compared to many Western European markets and a highly skilled local engineering workforce is positioning the country as an increasingly attractive destination for renewable energy investment.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the next stage of growth will depend on more than generation capacity. Grid availability, storage, flexibility and the ability to execute complex infrastructure projects will increasingly determine which projects can move successfully from development to operation.<\/p>\n

As the market continues to mature, Romania is strengthening its role not only as a project location, but also as a strategic hub for large-scale renewable energy development in Central and Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n

The next phase is about integration<\/strong><\/p>\n

Across Intersolar, one message came through clearly: the energy transition is becoming increasingly interconnected. Solar and wind generation, BESS, digital technologies and grid infrastructure need to be considered as parts of the same system.<\/p>\n

The competitive advantage will increasingly belong to those able to turn individual technologies into projects that work as complete energy systems \u2014 technically, commercially and operationally.<\/p>\n
