Why a trusted EPC makes the difference in utility-scale solar projects https://www.waldevar.com/de/why-a-trusted-epc-makes-the-difference-in-large-scale-solar-projects/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 16:39:53 +0000 https://www.waldevar.com/?p=29612 Why a Trusted EPC Makes the Difference in Large-Scale Solar Projects

Why a trusted EPC makes the difference in utility-scale solar projects

Conclusions from SEBS 2026 – Solar Energy Bucharest Summit, Palace of Parliament

In an energy landscape shaped by the accelerated transition to renewable sources, solar energy is no longer a future option, but a strategic necessity of the present. This was the central message of SEBS 2026 – Solar Energy Bucharest Summit, a landmark event for the energy industry in Central and Eastern Europe, held in a highly symbolic venue: the Palace of Parliament.

On stage, alongside other key industry players, Cristian Dragomir, CEO of WALDEVAR Energy, brought forward a core topic essential to market maturity: the importance of a trusted EPC.

From concept to reality: where solar projects are won or lost

One of the recurring themes of the discussion was the fundamental difference between planning a solar project and successfully delivering it. While financing, permitting, and feasibility studies are essential steps, a project’s success is decided, more often than not, during the execution phase.

An EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) is not merely a service integrator; it is the element that connects strategy with on-site reality. Poor coordination, fragmented external resources, or compromises on quality can lead to delays, cost overruns, and long-term operational risks.

At SEBS 2026, it was clearly emphasized that trust in an EPC is built through real delivery capability, not just contractual commitments.

Fully integrated in-house resources: the foundation of a strong EPC

Cristian Dragomir emphasized that at WALDEVAR Energy, one of the pillars that clearly differentiates us in the market is the full integration of in-house resources. In an industry where many players rely heavily on subcontractors for critical project phases, we operate as an EPC with proprietary teams, taking full ownership of execution. This model delivers a tangible competitive advantage: operational coherence, speed of response, and guaranteed quality at every stage of the solar projects we deliver.

In-house resources mean:

  • direct control over execution,
  • flexibility in managing unforeseen challenges,
  • alignment between engineering, procurement, and construction,
  • the ability to meet strict timelines and quality standards.

In large-scale solar projects, where every delay translates into financial loss, the operational robustness of the EPC becomes a decisive criterion for investors.

Quality execution is not a slogan — it is a strategy

At WALDEVAR Energy, execution quality is non-negotiable, as Cristian Dragomir explained. In a highly competitive industry, where cost pressure often leads to compromises, we have consistently chosen the opposite path: investing in correct, rigorous, and sustainable execution. Field experience shows that any deviation from this principle inevitably results in performance risks, increased maintenance costs, and reputational exposure.

For this reason, our approach is built around delivering projects that perform reliably over the long term, without compromising on quality.

Quality must be understood as:

  • a pillar of long-term sustainability,
  • a key factor in project bankability,
  • a guarantee of investment return.

Participants emphasized that solar projects are not merely infrastructure assets, but long-term energy assets, with the EPC playing a critical role in their lifetime performance.

In a rapidly expanding industry, internal organization becomes a strategic differentiator, not just an administrative detail.

Outlook for the solar energy market

SEBS 2026 reaffirmed a key reality: the regional solar market is entering a phase of maturity. Investors are more selective, projects are larger, and risk tolerance is lower. In this environment, collaboration with solid, well-structured, quality-driven EPCs is no longer optional — it is essential.

Discussions at the Palace of Parliament made one thing clear: the future of solar energy belongs to those capable of delivering not only installed capacity, but trust, consistency, and performance.

SEBS 2026 – Solar Energy Bucharest Summit confirmed that the future of utility-scale solar projects is built on trust, real delivery capability, and long-term performance. For WALDEVAR, these principles are concrete elements that define how we approach every project.

In recent years, the company has taken concrete steps towards internationalization, targeting in particular European markets with an accelerated pace of development in the area of renewable energy and grid infrastructure, such as Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic.
The selection of these markets is based on criteria such as the stability of the regulatory framework, market maturity, access to support schemes, network capacity and the existence of a solid pipeline of projects. At the same time, the availability of local resources and the level of competition in the EPC area are analysed. The company’s strategy targets markets where it can bring a real competitive advantage, either through the ability to execute quickly or through the know-how accumulated in complex projects.

How does the company’s strategy change with the development of the Energy Storage (BESS) segment?

The integration of storage solutions is an essential step in the evolution of the portfolio. The strategy moves from a predominantly EPC model for production to integrated solutions, which include flexibility and operational optimization.
BESS systems will play an important role in increasing the bankability of projects, facilitating grid integration and maximizing revenues, including through ancillary services and market mechanisms. In the coming years, a significant part of new projects will include storage components.

How do you manage to differentiate yourself in an increasingly competitive market?

Differentiation is based on the ability to execute quickly, control of critical resources and experience in complex projects. The company adopts an integrated EPC approach, with a focus on engineering, procurement optimization and efficient site management.
Standardization and operational efficiency allow for rapid scaling of projects, while flexibility in adapting technical and commercial solutions is an important competitive advantage.

Press Release

WALDEVAR Energy becomes EPC partner for Doral Energy’s first utility-scale solar projects in Romania

WALDEVAR Energy, a leading European EPC contractor in renewable energy, announces the start of construction works for two new utility-scale photovoltaic parks developed for Doral Energy. The projects are located in Tudor Vladimirescu (Brăila County) and Ștefan Vodă (Călărași County), Romania. Together, the two solar parks will deliver an installed capacity of approximately 14 MWp and will include around 25,000 photovoltaic panels.

These projects mark Doral Energy’s first investments in Romania. The Israeli-based company, a global leader in renewable energy with operations across multiple continents and a portfolio exceeding 15 GWp, is strengthening its strategic presence in Central and Eastern Europe, an increasingly important region for accelerating the energy transition.

WALDEVAR Energy acts as EPC contractor for the entire investment program, overseeing all phases including engineering, procurement, logistics, construction, and commissioning. Both projects are expected to be completed within 12 months and will generate local employment opportunities, contributing to the economic development of the surrounding communities.

By expanding Romania’s renewable energy capacity, the two projects support the country’s energy security, accelerate the transition to clean energy, and strengthen regional energy resilience, at a time when sustainable infrastructure has become a strategic priority across Europe. These investments further reinforce the commitment of WALDEVAR Energy and the Doral Group to advancing local renewable energy production and expanding photovoltaic infrastructure nationwide.

Beyond increasing clean energy generation, the projects will deliver tangible benefits to the local communities in Tudor Vladimirescu and Ștefan Vodă, including job creation during the construction phase and additional contributions to local budgets, with a direct positive impact on the regional economy.

Nicu Constantin, COO of WALDEVAR Energy, commented:
"Partnering with Doral Energy confirms our ability to deliver robust, high-quality projects that contribute to strengthening Romania’s energy security. We are committed to building more than photovoltaic parks we aim to create lasting value for local communities and to develop new projects together that enhance the country’s energy infrastructure."

Guy Sagi, CEO of Doral Europe, added:
"These projects in Romania represent an important milestone in our international expansion strategy. In WALDEVAR Energy, we have found a strong partner with deep technical expertise and a long-term vision. We intend to continue investing in Romania and to contribute to the growth of local generation capacity in a way that supports both economic development and energy stability."

Through these projects, WALDEVAR Energy reaffirms its position as a trusted EPC partner, recognized for delivering large-scale energy infrastructure projects and consistently meeting high international standards. The company’s reputation now extends well beyond Romania, positioning WALDEVAR Energy as a reliable partner for international investors and a key contributor to the development of modern energy infrastructure.
